Apprenticeships
Gateway recruits, trains and manages Apprentices in Health and Social Care and Business Administration, to provide good quality staff with the relevant skills and experience for specific organisations. The majority of apprentices take up posts with the NHS; some go on to higher education and some are employed through the Gateway Agency.
We recruit locally to give members of the community employment opportunities, then take up to 9 months to assess and trial them – making sure they’re ready for the workplace. During their apprenticeship they take an active role in the day to day operation of the organisation they have been recruited for. The structured training programme means there’s minimum disruption to the workplace.
There are two types of apprenticeships.
Apprenticeships
If you are on this programme you will take:
- a National Vocational Qualification at Level 2
- key skills – usually two or more of Communication, Application of Number,
Information and Communication Technology, Working with Others, Improving
Own Learning and Performance, and Problem Solving - employee responsibilities and rights (usually covered in induction)
- and, in some cases, a Technical Certificate. This is a qualification which covers
the knowledge and understanding of your job - in addition, you may have to take part of another NVQ or a special training
programme, for example, health and safety or hygiene at work.
Advanced Apprenticeships
If you are on this programme, you will take:
- a National Vocational Qualification at Level 3
- key skills – usually two or more of Communication, Application of Number,
Information and Communication Technology, Working with Others, Improving
Own Learning and Performance, and Problem Solving - employee responsibilities and rights (usually covered in induction)
- and a Technical Certificate. This is a qualification which covers the knowledge
