Black Country Co-Lead Walsall 

Position: Black Country Co-Lead (Walsall)
Location: Walsall / Black Country (community-based & meetings across LMNS areas)
Hours: 15 hours per month
Contract: Self-employed (role reviewed October 2027)
Pay: £20 per hour
Eligibility: Lived experience of accessing maternity and/or neonatal services in Walsall or the Black Country
Closing Date: Sunday 23rd November 2025 at 11pm

Black Country Maternity & Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP) is a group of parents (and parents-to-be), service user representatives, healthcare providers, community organisations and representatives, commissioners and professionals from local maternity services who work together to review and contribute to the development of local maternity care. Our aim is to make sure that parents’ voices are heard and their needs are placed at the centre when reviewing and designing local maternity care.

The Role

•Act as Lead for Maternity & Neonatal Voices members and contributors in a designated area.

Chair meetings with members (including service users, providers and community organisations), ensuring adequate representation and quoracy where required.

•Ensure views and feedback are accurately and adequately represented.

Engage with the local population of the area you represent to hear their perinatal experiences.

Responsibilities

Role Responsibilities – Meetings

  • Attend and Chair 4 formal MNVP meetings per year.

  • Support compilation and distribution of papers in advance of meeting dates.

  • Set agendas with support from the Coordinator and Co-Lead.

  • Actively manage meetings and ensure fair representation from all attendees.

  • Engage with service users and their families, and any existing MNVP members.

  • Link with local professionals – midwives, Health Visitors, Children’s Centres, Early Years provision, Consultants.

  • Third sector engagement – parents’ groups, community groups.

  • Contribute to social media communication as required.

Leads and Service User Reps

  • Support service user representative recruitment and induction, with a particular focus on seldom-heard groups.

  • Provide ongoing support to service user reps as required.

  • Act as contact point for service user reps.

  • Support induction of new members to the MNVP.

Service User Engagement

  • Assist in service user consultation and feedback sessions.

  • Support engagement of seldom-heard groups through direct service user engagement and contact with support groups and networks.

  • Facilitate sub-groups where appropriate.

  • Walk the Wards and engage with service users.

  • Network and build relationships with community groups that interact with parents.

  • Record service user experiences.

Representation and Promotion

  • Promote the designated area of MNVP and meetings through social media channels.

  • Work closely with Leads within LMNS (Local Maternity & Neonatal Systems: Walsall, Sandwell, Dudley, Wolverhampton) and surrounding MNVP/LMNS areas.

  • Attend trust workstream meetings or wider community meetings and represent MNVP and service user voices.

Governance

  • Ensure compliance with Equal Opportunities, GDPR, DBS, Safeguarding.

  • Participate in mandatory training for Leads/Co-Leads.

  • Record and report experiences and data as required by the MNVP.

Work Plan

  • Ensure progress on any work plan; keep it realistic and regularly reviewed.

  • Actively work towards hearing the voices of a wide range of service users across Walsall.

  • Collaborate and link with the Co-Lead as required.

  • Attend LMNS/Trust meetings as required.

Health and Safety

  • Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and others who may be affected by your acts or omissions.

  • Co-operate with the Company to comply with any safety rule and/or duties under legislation or relevant Codes of Practice.

  • Maintain safe and clean conditions in your working area according to housekeeping standards.

  • Work in accordance with information and training provided.
