Gateway is registered in England and Wales as a Community Interest Company (CIC). This means we are a limited company created for community benefit, with an asset lock which prevents any profits from being used for private gain. Any surplus we make as a company must be reinvested into our community work.
Thanks to the determination and support of our Board Chair and Board Members, we have developed services that support the communities where we operate and enable us to grow.
Chair: Paul Hanna
Paul Hanna became our Chair in December 2017. Paul currently manages a range of primary care NHS services within South Doc Services, a non-profit-making GP co-operative based in South Birmingham. He has also set up and run a community hub in Erdington offering welcoming spaces for local people to come together. Paul joined the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce in 2001 and led the Economic Development and Partnership team (EDP), developing and delivering a wide range of support services for businesses.
Board Members
Ann Forletta was our Chair from September 2013 until December 2017. She has a long history of working in the NHS and its various structures, later becoming involved in primary care and the development of Clinical Commissioning Groups. For many years Ann worked in Children’s commissioning and has a keen interest in equalities and regeneration.
Liz Wood currently works with communities, partnerships and corporate businesses to raise investment to support patient care and service delivery, but her previous work includes working in the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS). As well as giving health guidance and resolutions to members of the public, families and carers, she has also worked with commissioners across the city to develop services in patient experience, children and young people, and maternity services.
Rosemarie Simpson is a Senior Consultant at Skills for Health, where she has a focus on widening participation and workforce planning and development particularly for support staff. As the sector skills council for health, Skills for Health’s role is to assist employers to deliver effective, high quality healthcare and improve productivity. Prior to this, she worked for 11 years as the Education and Training Officer at the British Dietetic Association, with responsibility for the development of professional education policy.
Surrinder Bains is the Strategic Manager at the Handsworth Association Of Schools and provides strategic, operational and project support to over 20 schools. Before this, he worked for John Taylor Hospice, Sandwell MBC and also Birmingham City Council. He has worked in Housing, Regeneration, Strategic Partnerships, as a business consultant, and with charities and social enterprises. He is a legacy board member with Gateway and has been involved in a number of sub-groups.
Nirmal Vora joined the Gateway Board of Directors as a Non-Executive Director in January 2019. He has an experienced and well established background in health and the NHS; as well as being a Managing Partner at West Heath Surgery, he is the CEO of GP federation SDSmyhealthcare.
