Maternity &

Neonatal

Voices Partnerships

Review and contribute to the development of local maternity care

Who are we?

A Maternity & Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP) is a team of people who provide feedback about their local maternity and neonatal systems.

The membership includes maternity professionals (like midwives and doctors) and people with direct personal experience of the service, including women who have been pregnant and given birth and their family members. Our MNVPs are led by those who use the services.

Gateway Family Services is the facilitator of MNVPs for Birmingham & Solihull and all of the Black Country, which includes Dudley, Sandwell & West Birmingham, Walsall and Wolverhampton.

The MNVPs are supported by Coordinators. Lynsey Roberts in Birmingham & Solihull and Nadia Griffin in the Black Country.

What we do?

At the MNVP, our mission is to amplify the voices of women and families, ensuring their insights and experiences help shape and improve Maternity and Neonatal services. We believe that collaboration and open dialogue are essential to creating supportive and effective care systems. Through meaningful engagement, such as listening events, surveys, and hospital visits, we work to bring positive changes to local services while fostering a safe space for families to share their experiences and make a difference.

Engaging with Families and Services

We connect with families and Maternity & Neonatal services through:

  • Regular Meetings: Held at least four times a year.
  • Surveys and Questionnaires: Conducted to gather feedback and share results.
  • ‘Listening’ Events: Offering a platform for families to share experiences.
  • Informal Chats: Taking place at baby groups and maternity settings.

📌 These engagements provide a safe and accepting environment for families to share their stories and opinions.

Collaboration with Services

We work closely with local Maternity & Neonatal services to:

  • Identify key themes and areas of concern.
  • Ensure insights are integrated into forward planning by relevant Trusts.

How the MNVP helps

Through service questionnaires and regular visits to wards and outpatient departments, we gather valuable insights that highlight recurring themes and guide collaborative efforts to enhance the service. Additionally, we review the Trust’s progress in implementing NHS initiatives designed to improve maternity care.

Recently We have:

Acted on feedback shared during an MNVP meeting, resulting in visible improvements to care provision, bringing relief to the service user who raised the issue.

Organised meetings that provide valuable support to individuals who have experienced child bereavement.

Collaborated with Trust staff to ensure user feedback was acted upon, leading to positive changes in service delivery and ongoing care improvements.

Made sure that red books and materials are available at hospital sites
