Black Country MNVP Inclusion Lead

Position: Black Country MNVP Inclusion Lead
Location: Black Country (across Trusts and community settings)
Hours: 20 hours per month (flexible)
Contract: Self-employed (role reviewed October 2027)
Pay: £20 per hour
Eligibility: Lived experience of accessing maternity and/or neonatal services in the Black Country

Black Country Maternity & Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP) is a group of parents (and parents-to-be), service user representatives, healthcare providers, community organisations and representatives, commissioners and professionals from local maternity services working together to review and develop local maternity care. Our aim is to ensure parents’ voices are heard and their needs are at the centre when reviewing and designing local maternity care.

The Inclusion Lead will promote and support a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within maternity and neonatal services across the MNVP in the Black Country. The postholder will advocate for equitable care, help reduce disparities in outcomes, and ensure the voices of all service users, families and staff are respected, represented and heard throughout the MNVP.

The Role

•Act as an independent Lead responsible for a pre-agreed geographical area/subject.

•Gather service user feedback, identify themes and represent these views as required by the MNVP.

•Liaise with fellow Leads within the Black Country and surrounding MNVP areas.

•Represent MNVP at Trust equity meetings and wider EDI planning meetings.

•Maintain oversight of MNVP activities related to Inclusion.

Network and maintain relationships with community partners connected to Inclusion.

Responsibilities
Contact
  • Be the contact point for your locality: service users and families, existing MNVP members.

  • Link with local professionals – midwives, Health Visitors, Children’s Centres, Early Years provision, Consultants.

  • Engage the third sector – parents’ groups, community groups.

  • Work with Equality Midwives in the Black Country Trusts.

Representation
  • Be a supportive champion for diverse voices (e.g., Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups, LGBTQ+ families, disabled people, vulnerable populations) so they are included in service design and feedback mechanisms.

  • Help develop inclusive patient information and ensure accessibility across languages and formats as required by Trust Leads.

  • Represent MNVP at Equality and Equity meetings across the Black Country.

Meetings
  • Submit quarterly updates on your work for the MNVP report.

  • Feed back information and agreements into Trusts via relationships with relevant Trust/Provider links.

  • Feed back system-wide through regular contact with Equity Lead Midwives and the MNVP Project Coordinator.

  • Ensure accurate notes of meetings are taken and distributed/shared.

  • Invite and liaise with guest speakers.

  • Lead on ensuring MNVP involvement in the Black Country Equity Workplan.

Improvement and Innovation
  • Support initiatives to address health inequalities in perinatal outcomes (e.g., maternal mortality, neonatal outcomes, experience of care).

  • Co-produce culturally appropriate and inclusive care pathways with colleagues and feed these into LMNS/Trust Equity Meetings.

  • Ensure a through-flow/succession of Leads.

  • Where there are Lead vacancies, lead the selection process of potential Leads.

  • Support induction and training of new Leads.

  • Provide peer support to newer Leads and Service User Reps; succession planning to develop the next generation of Leads.

  • Support and promote participation in EDI training and learning opportunities.

  • Share best practice and facilitate discussions on topics such as unconscious bias, cultural competence and inclusive communication, where required.

Governance
  • Ensure compliance with Equal Opportunities, GDPR, DBS, Safeguarding.

  • Contribute to the collection and use of EDI and health inequalities data to inform service improvements.

  • Collate feedback from Leads for EDI workstream meetings with the Trusts.

Work Plan
  • Ensure progress on any work plan; keep it realistic and regularly reviewed.

  • Actively work towards hearing the voices of a wide range of service users across the Black Country.

  • Collaborate and link with Leads as required.

  • Attend LMNS/Trust meetings as required.

  • Work with local and regional EDI Leads, MNVPs and community organisations.

  • Participate in relevant committees, working groups and forums to influence policies and practices.

  • Co-operate with the Company to comply with safety rules and legal duties/Codes of Practice.

  • Maintain safe and clean conditions in your working area according to housekeeping standards.

  • Work in accordance with information and training provided.
